White House/Bremer ordered retreat that planted the seeds of civil war in Fallujah in Fall '04 - for Politics
Bush surely ordered it, Bremer enforced it, and General Ricardo Sanchez almost resigned over the retreat under fire from Fallujah that was ordered by the White House for domestic political concerns as the '04 elections approached :
"The key one is Fallujah..........Bush is a coward, he played politics in '04 to gain reelection and exhibited a blatant diregard for the lives of our young soldiers and abandoned the last mission that could have possibly "won" some stability in Iraq.
It had already been communicated to the administration and our political decision makers that this would be a very tough fight and that it would last 3 to 4 weeks. So we go into this battle with a very clear understanding that this is going to be bloody......
And when we make the decisions to back away from that fight after 2 days, we make that decision knowing that we will eventually have to go back into Fallujah to eliminate that safe haven. It encourages the insurgency, essentially gives them a victory. And I believe that that is the seeds of civil war that we ourselves plant in Iraq."
"That's clearly a political decision. Ambassador Bremer is the one that communicates that to me. But it was made in Washington and it was unequivocally approved by the President."
President Bush won reelection but lost the war in Fallujah in 2004.
Heckuva job, Bushie.......
