Daffy Doug Bruce to get a Republican challenge at State

I guess those numerous re-elections Doug Bruce counted on from Republican voters may have been a little optimistic:

Rep. Douglas Bruce caused a ruckus when he delayed his swearing-in at the legislature so he could run for an extra two-year term. But after a rough start at the Capitol, even he has joked his first year might be his last.

Bruce, censured by the House for kicking a news photographer, faces a primary challenger this weekend at the El Paso County Republican Assembly.

Mark Waller, an officer in the Air Force, is promising to represent Colorado Springs in a "dignified manner."

"If we want to have a voice our elected officials have to put petty bickering and egos aside and work with all legislators to promote our values and further our cause," Waller says on his Web site.

Bruce postponed his swearing-in so he would serve less than half of the term he was appointed to fill. That means he is eligible to serve eight more years in the House.
