And bye bye Doug Lamborn?!?
Jay Fawcett laid some serious groundwork for Democrats in the last elections for CD-5. He's in the DKosopedia, dammit! And even though Doug Lamborn won, he's proving to be as incompetent and inconsequential as we all predicted. His time in congress seems short.
Hardly a week goes by without a scathing letter to the Gazette editors about Dougie Boy's cluelessness. Here's another from last week's Indy:
I absolutely cannot understand why our congressman, Doug Lamborn, has chosen to spurn the flood of calls and letters from local individuals and groups regarding Browns Canyon. Literally thousands of messages have been sent to his attention on this subject. Sent and ignored, sent and not even acknowledged.
...snip...
Colorado's 5th District voters deserve better from their representative.
And on they go, week after week.
So we all know that Doug is going to be challenged again by Jeff Crank and The Air Force General who wants to Christianize Iraq - Bent Rayburn. (That should make John McCain's 100 year plan for Iraq fully functional.)
And now we know there's another AF Colonel who's ready to run on the Democratic side - Hal Bidlack. Here's some of Hal's story:
Bidlack, a 49-year-old retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, earned his doctorate studying American government. He clearly sees solutions to the nation's problems and lessons to be taken from careful study of history.
He also seems confident that the leadership skills he honed during 25 years in the military could help him serve the country further.
The hard part about contemplating a run for office, he admits, is having to talk so much about himself.
"It's a little embarrassing to me, to have to brag," Bidlack says.
That hesitance does not mean Bidlack is reluctant to speak. Eating lunch alongside "interim" campaign director Tom Ward, Bidlack talks rapid-fire about U.S. history, his policy positions and his qualifications to hold office.
He'll continue teaching government at the academy as a civilian through April. He plans to give his notice and formally announce his candidacy April 2.
It really is hard to explain the single-mindedness with which Republicans vote down here. We thought a Lt. Colonel with vast military and international experience would be a shoe in for congress. Voters disagreed and went all robot on us. But Doug Lamborn is having serious electoral dysfunction this year. So are Republicans everywhere, and that looks to continue even here in what we like to call Fort Dobson, CO.
I said before that Jay Fawcett changed the DNA of this district with his run. That's why we had Rebublicans for Fawcett. And that's why we had Club for Growth and NRCC have to come in with hundreds of thousands of dollars. But now the tables have turned, those evolutionary changes are coming to the surface in CD-5. Dem turnout was historic at the caucuses in El Paso County, and that pattern will almost surely continue to November.
Will it be enough to steal a seat from Red El Paso County? I'll see you on the 5th of November with that answer. And maybe a new Democratic congressman in CD-5.
And here's how much voters trust Dems on the issues this year:
"Please tell me if you think the REPUBLICAN Party or the DEMOCRATIC Party could do a better job in each of the following areas. Which party could do a better job of [see below]?"
Foreign policy: Democrats +5
Immigration: Demorats + 5
