John McCain ain't no Maverick
From a previous post:John McCain is no Maverick. He's not even a James Garner, the star of probably my favorite TV show ever - The Rockford Files. And now that McCain looks to be the Republican nominee for president, Media Matters is taking a look at that "maverick" status:
Now as Saint John's presidential ambitions begin to bloom, he's proving himself just as craven, shallow, callous and mendacious as the next guy who wants to be president.
Only the press will never seem to notice.
Am I too harsh, are my words out of line? NO. Craven. Shallow. Callous. Mendacious. (update: Disengenuous, too)
Yep, all or the above. Yet the press will still play along and continually call McCain a maverick. It's a good story, an easy story. But worse than lazy, they have abandoned their jobs of reporting the truth to our citizens.
(Pic stolen from some James Garner fan site, if I remembered where, I'd give them credit. There's more honesty and integrity in that painted on cowboy than St. John McCain could ever dream of having. h/t Atrios otherwise.)
