Jan on KRDO Tonight

Tonight Jan will be featured on KRDO, channel 13, at 10pm, along with her opponent, in a 2½ minute segment that is the first of a series of profiles of each race in the county: From Jan --

I have no idea how this will play out on TV, but I felt that the interview went well.

If you watch it tonight and feel inclined to give your feedback on it, I’d appreciate it and encourage you to do so. Cross your fingers, say a prayer, or put the message out to the universe that it goes well. As always, thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Jan Hejtmanek

PeakDems: Let's Smash the Old Boys' Club

All you Dems out there ready to smash the Old Boys' Club? We can do it this year with these great candidates, all endorsed by the Colorado Springs Independent:

Cary Kennedy is running for State Treasurer: "Cary has been a leader in Colorado for a decade. We can count on her to be a good steward of public funds and to fight for the interests of Colorado's taxpayers." - U.S. Senator Ken Salazar

Keely Marrs
is running for State Senate to replace Doug Lamborn and his Robot Replacement Dave Schultheis: Keely Marrs served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter and studied Russian at the Defense Language Institute. Marrs grew up in the center of this northeast Colorado Springs district,

Karen Teja is running for HD-14. She said it best: "I completed two terms as a member of the School District 11 Board of Directors. In that role, I always put children first. Now I want to put the citizens in HD 14 first. Public service has been a key part of my
life. The end of my school board tenure is only the beginning of a new opportunity to serve our community."

And Anna Lord is taking the mountains by storm.Like Jay Fawcett, she has found Republicans flocking to her campaign for Colorado's House District 21: "I am a Republican who endorses Anna Lord for Colorado House District 21. I taught two of Anna's children and had the opportunity to experience the dedication she has for accepting responsibility as an active participant in her children's education. She exemplified the partnership we strive for between schools and home in accomplishing a quality educational experience for her children."

Imagine the looks on the faces of Doug Bruce, Lionel Rivera, and James Dobson when this group storms the capital. PRICELESS.

(Pics stolen from the Indy. Admitting it is the first step.....:-))

Doug Bruce Still a Sociopath

Wow, what took this guy so long to see what I saw looooooooong ago?

El Paso County Attorney Bill Louis lashed out at County Commissioner Douglas Bruce on Thursday, calling him a narcissist, sociopath and crackpot enabler for pushing an initiative that would make it easier to petition measures onto the ballot.

Louis called Amendment 38, which Bruce authored, “a collection of nonsense” during county commissioners’ discussion of a resolution urging voters to reject the amendment. Louis said the amendment would undermine government.

Louis, who left his normal seat beside the commissioners when he spoke, said his views were those of a private citizen, not the county attorney.

Bruce called him “Citizen Louis” and asked if Louis was taking vacation time to speak to the board. Bruce repeatedly interrupted Louis.

“This is not about the public welfare,” Louis said. “This is about Douglas Bruce memorializing his guerrilla and bullying tactics.”

“How do you spell ‘guerrilla?’” Bruce asked.

“G-U-E,” Louis started.

“Commissioner Bruce, you’re out of line,” Chairwoman Sallie Clark said.

“I just want to know if I’m being called a gorilla, as in large ape,” Bruce said.

He is that. He's also a sociopath, imho. Is he still a slumlord, too?

Can you spare $5 Bucks to turn Colorado blue with these Blue America candidates?

Just do it, baby. I don't want Karl Rove to have another good nights' sleep the rest of his life!

Jay Fawcett on the Air

Free Air to Jay Fawcett on CBS4Denver.Com- what a great service to our democracy.

Dougie boy is MIA - who can blame him?

Taking the Fifth: RMN Profiles Fawcett (D) and Lamborn (R)

Jay Fawcett (D) - your next congressman from Colorado's Fifth:

There were people I grew up with who had opportunities to get low-cost loans to go to college. They had opportunities to achieve great success. That's all part of who we are as Americans," he said.

Fawcett assails the thinking that government is an obstacle and that criticizing the current administration is somehow un-American."We don't need people to go to Washington to spout dogma. We need people to think," he said.

He sees serious problems across a spectrum of issues: health care for Americans, the environment, education, immigration, Iraq and the war on terrorism, mounting federal debt and quality care for veterans.

"The idea is to have discourse, to listen to different viewpoints and arrive at workable solutions," he said.

"One of the first things they teach you about leadership in the military is that you'd better be ready to listen," he said. "If you just talk all the time, you're not going to be able to assess what's happening. You're not going to be a good leader."

And speaking of Doug Lamborn:

Lamborn is vague on how to pay for rising federal debt and the programs he supports, including the Iraq war and immigration controls.

"You can balance the budget by either raising taxes or lowering spending. I cast my lot for lowering spending," he said.

He suggests cutting "earmarks," the pet spending projects for congressional members' home districts, but those total about $30 billion, a fraction of the annual deficit.

Like I've been saying..........

More Letters: Our wonderful Congress

The Gazette let Jeff Crank lie about what Nancy Pelosi would do as House Speaker. I guess they think Denny is doing a swell job.......

Letter writer Chuck Rivers sets the record straight in the G. Take it, Chuck!
I hope Jeff Crank is correct in his comments that Nancy Pelosi would undo gains made by the GOP Congress (“ ‘Speaker Pelosi’ would undo gains made by GOP Congress,” Perspectives, Oct. 15).

I find it ironic he considers the performance of the GOP Congress as something positive. Let’s review a few of the GOP’s “accomplishments”:

  • It has increased the size of government to unprecedented levels.
  • It has increased spending to highest levels with corresponding highest public debt ever.
  • It has caused the highest domestic and foreign trade budget deficits in the history of this country.
  • It has elevated anti-American sentiment around the world to record levels.
  • It has attempted to raid the Social Security program and take savings away from the middle class.
  • It has passed the most unfair tax breaks for the wealthy in history with minimum benefit for the middle class.
  • It continues to ignore the plight of 45 million Americans without health insurance.
  • It is comfortable with elimination of habeas corpus and condones torture.

I hope he is right and a new Congress gets elected. We cannot take or tolerate more of the same. We need change in this country for the sake of our republic and Founding Fathers

Chuck must be a partisan. Welcome to the club, CR!

Joel Cline - Ignorance to spare

5TH DISTRICT RACE - letters to the G:

Fawcett and Co. would cede Iraq to terrorists

"Democrat Jay Fawcett wants to cut and run, pulling our troops from Iraq."
Not even close, Joel: pull back to the borders, secure the battlespace, train Iraqis like their lives depend on it. Read the analysis of a military pro here, it's Lt. Col. Jay Fawcett, retired:

"This will undermine all the progress our solders are fighting for."
This is Joel's idea of progress. I think Joel's dictionary is out of date.....

"Does Fawcett really think it helps the morale of our solders when he publicly states that we should pull out? Doesn’t he realize that “cut and run” encourages the terrorists? Is this how Fawcett fights terrorism, by running away?"
Someone shoulda "pulled out", all right.
"The terrorists are in Iraq right now and our solders should fight them over there. If we don’t stop the terrorists now they’ll just keep growing in number and come here."
We let them live through Tora Bora, created a haven in Iraq, and did not plan to secure post-war Iraq. You still trust these guys to get this on track, Joel?
"The terrorists hide behind women, children, civilians and in mosques. That’s how they fight. They are cowards and they have to be stopped. And we cannot give in to them by running away."
True, true, true, and no one's running, Joel. Except you from reality.
"If this is how Fawcett fights terrorism how will he protect us against Iran or North Korea?"
The two countries whose nuclear programs President Bush failed to control?
"State Sen. Doug Lamborn realizes that the fight against terrorism is going on in Iraq. Lamborn stands behind our troops and the war against terrorism."
With Bronze Star license plates....heh.

"Lamborn has my vote."

Thanks for writing the Gazette, Joel. Now everyone knows.......

Taking the Fifth: Rats jump ship, Beached Whale

Wow, Doug Lamborn must be having some real sleepless night by now.

He's already forfeited the moral high ground with weak and lying attack ads - now the DC establishment has cut and run from this 20-year Republican district.

  • Bob Novak sights a beached whale:
Republican contributors in Washington were surprised Tuesday to receive an invitation from Hastert for a Thursday night $2,000-a-plate fund-raising dinner for Colorado State Sen. Doug Lamborn, who is running for a Republican-held congressional seat contested by Democrats. The GOP faithful were ready to show up at Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse in Washington to show solidarity for the embattled speaker only to learn that Hastert would not be there himself.
  • The Rat Terry Jeffries deserts the SS Lamborn:
Lamborn is not exactly interviewing prospective congressional staff or looking at real estate in Washington, D.C. A recent Denver Post editorial said it all: “No Free Pass in 5th CD Race.” With numerous moderate Republicans and backers of Lamborn primary opponents refusing to support the nominee, the chances of an upset by Democrat Jay Fawcett, a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel and Desert Storm veteran, have been vastly enhanced. The National Journal’s “Hotline” elevated the 5th District race to one of its “50 House Races to Watch” and Congressional Quarterly recently profiled the Lamborn-Fawcett contest under the headline: “5th District No Longer Safe for GOP.”
Sorry for the rough language guys. Ann Coulter would say no less. :-)

Crank Lied About Pelosi, Gazette Published It

heh.

Headlines of the Day

Justice Antonin Scalia on C-Span: "I am not a strict constructionist judge. Don't call me that."

I actually gained some respect for him at this ACLU conference.

Tom DeLay on Faux News: "I really worry the voters are becoming too polarized in this years' election."

Well, Tom, who the **** do you think caused that little problem?

Vote now - for Colorado

if you won't listen to me, at least listen to Matt. We all thank you.

What has Doug Lamborn done for our troops?

Bronze Star License plates.

Troops need a helluva lot more than that when they come home. And they need a helluva lot more when they are in battle.

Maybe Doug thinks those plates block AK-47 bullets. Jay Fawcett knows better.

John Salazar Says Hastert Should Resign

Ethics and accountability, John Salazar stands up for them:

Washington - Rep. John Salazar is calling on House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign over his handling of the scandal surrounding former Rep. Mark Foley.

"We need new leadership in Congress - people who put protecting our children before power politics," Salazar, D-Colo., said in a statement Wednesday.

Colorado's Republican House members, along with the other Democrats, have not called for Hastert to step down.

(Colorado's Democratic House candidates have called for Haster to resign. I guess there's a shortage of typeface at the Post.)

Rep. Bob Beauprez, R-Colo., a candidate for governor, said he supports Hastert and other House leaders because there's no proof of a coverup.

(Yeah, Bob. Mr. Ethics himself.)
Doug Lamborn also wants Denny "The 911 Blimp" Hastert to stay in office. Doug reallllllllly wants that Armed Services job, even though he's particularly unqualified.

I just wonder when Doug will speak up about all those ethics and morals they're always harping on?

Sean Paige/Gazette Join Lamborn Campaign

Sean Paige and the Gazette have joined Doug Lamborn's campaign.

Jeff Crank
gets fluffer duties to keep Lamborn's campaign alive.

And Sean calls me partisan? As Atrios would say, "what a wanker."

SS Protects Bush from MySpace Post

Wow, they are kicking ass and taking names.

The latest Sacramento resident to be questioned by federal agents for threatening President Bush is a 14-year-old girl who is passionate about liberal politics and cute movie stars.

Julia Wilson learned a vivid civics lesson Wednesday when two Secret Service agents pulled her out of class to ask about comments and images she posted on MySpace.

Beneath the words "Kill Bush," Wilson posted a cartoonish photo-collage of a knife stabbing the hand of the president. It was one of a few images Wilson said she used to decorate an anti-Bush Web page she moderated on MySpace, the social networking website that is hugely popular among teenagers.

The Secret Service refused to answer questions about the case or even confirm an investigation.

All you terrists out there better watch out - you're next!

John Kerry: Hero, Thinker; George Bush: Liar, Idiot

See the Kerry difference?

It's incomprehensible to me. I mean look -- go back to that period. On that November 21st date [Nov. 21, 2001, when Bush first asked Rumsfeld to look at the war plan for an attack on Iraq], we had not yet fought Tora Bora.

We were deep in Afghanistan with an enormous priority to kill al-Qaeda. And we also had a very tentative Pakistan that was fragile, which was a country with nuclear weapons, which we were just moving to the place of sort of participation with America.

So my instinct, absent evidence of intelligence, would not have been to ask the secretary of defense for war plans on Iraq. I would have said, "Do we have sufficient troops on the ground to trap Osama bin Laden?" It would not have moved me to take the eye off of Osama bin Laden and the fundamental goal, which was destroying al-Qaeda.
V. Bush:

President Bush keeps revising his explanation for why the U.S. is in Iraq, moving from narrow military objectives at first to history-of-civilization stakes now.

Initially, the rationale was specific: to stop Saddam Hussein from using what Bush claimed were the Iraqi leader's weapons of mass destruction or from selling them to al-Qaida or other terrorist groups.

But 3 1/2 years later, with no weapons found, still no end in sight and the war a liability for nearly all Republicans on the ballot Nov. 7, the justification has become far broader and now includes the expansive "struggle between good and evil."

Republicans seized on North Korea's reported nuclear test last week as further evidence that the need for strong U.S. leadership extends beyond Iraq.

Bush's changing rhetoric reflects increasing administration efforts to tie the war, increasingly unpopular at home, with the global fight against terrorism, still the president's strongest suit politically.

"We can't tolerate a new terrorist state in the heart of the Middle East, with large oil reserves that could be used to fund its radical ambitions, or used to inflict economic damage on the West," Bush said in a news conference last week in the Rose Garden.

When no weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq, Bush shifted his war justification to one of liberating Iraqis from a brutal ruler.

CD-5: Heaven can wait - Post Endorses Fawcett

The Post covers yesterday's debate:

Fawcett, a military veteran and political newcomer, came out swinging.

After Lamborn bragged about U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert's promise to put Lamborn on the House Armed Services Committee - a political plum in a district with five military bases - Fawcett offered a sharp blow:

"Mr. Hastert has given his endorsement to my opponent, who has no qualifications for being on that committee, which makes me question Mr. Hastert and his party's dedication to military defense," Fawcett said.

"Keep in mind, this is a guy who has been protecting a pedophile for the past five months, if not the last five years," he said, referring to reports that Hastert knew about suggestive Internet messages sent by former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., to teenage boys who worked as congressional pages.

Hastert has denied knowing of improper communications until Sept. 29, when Foley resigned from Congress. But Kirk Fordham, Foley's former chief of staff, has said he told a top Hastert aide of Foley's conduct at least three years ago.

Yet Jeff Crank is worried about a Nancy Pelosi speakership who wants to "drain the swamp"?

Jeff should worry about his own party's leadership and get them on track.

In the meantime, the Denver Post endrorsed Jay Fawcett. Common sense does have its place in today's politics:

We gladly endorsed Joel Hefley in 2004, but the survivor of a six-way Republican primary, Doug Lamborn, isn't in his league.

We urge voters in the 5th to send Fawcett to Congress instead.

Lamborn shows little understanding of the needs of the active military or veterans.
But Denny Hastert thinks Lamborn is just swell!
Fawcett has taken a keen interest in the issues most important to the 5th District: veterans benefits, education, affordable health care and water access. Lamborn is off in Neverland. He's pledged not to vote for new taxes no matter what, with no exceptions for war-time spending obligations or economic necessity. He seeks to models himself after Ronald Reagan, but of course Reagan was far more pragmatic.
Like I've been saying. Do we need another ideological Rubber Stamp for the Failed Republican leadership in congress?
