Lamborn Wins, Prepares to Lose
The first part is true:
State Sen. Doug Lamborn won the 5th Congressional District Republican primary Tuesday on the strength of the first votes cast absentee ballots sent out nearly a month ago.
Late in the evening, neither Lamborn nor rival Jeff Crank, retiring Congressman Joel Hefley's former chief of staff, could afford to be jubilant or downcast. But it appeared Lamborn had edged Crank, a former chamber of commerce vice president, grabbing 15,011 votes (27 percent) while Crank captured 14,096 (25 percent).(Make sure to read the user comments - Republicans are jumping ship less than 24 hours after Doug's annointment.)
The last part is coming, with a lot of hard work, and some more nasty campaigning by the Christian Right's favorite candidate:
Lamborn suffered setbacks in the past two weeks when he was accused of collaborating illegally with two outside groups and the police report was filed.
And when his son was caught stealing opponents' signs. Oh well, that's what we can expect from the modern day Republican Party.
