Just one set of lies

Just to document a (semi)-complete set of lies the Bush Administration has told wrt money transfer tracking by terrorists:

Lie Number 1:
Bush: "Congress was briefed."
Senator Feinstein: "[I] wasn’t briefed until after it was clear the New York Times was publishing the story."

Lie Number 2:
Bush: "The program was secret."
Richard Clarke and Roger Cressey: It's a "secret" the terrorists already knew.

Lie Number 3:
Bush: "This hurts our efforts to catch terrists."
Me: prove it.

And the cherry on the icing:
Bush: Terrorists will obviously use Western Union and their Nationally controlled banks to transfer money (this is the implication from all his bluster.)
Truth: Many in the Arab world do not even truth their own nation's banks. They are controlled by the states and most likely have connections to state security.

Hawala is a system designed to bypass banks and keep money transfers private and out of the scrutiny of any officials who may be interested. If there is one person out there who thinks that high-level, smart terrorists would truth their money to Arab National banks, please raise your hand.

Any questions?
