No Quarter

Quote of the Day:

At various times since 9/11 members of the administration have acted as if catching Osama bin Laden, or changing Social Security, or saving Terri Schiavo, mattered more than any possible other cause. Creating an Iraqi military actually matters more than almost anything else. But the people who were intent on the war have lost interest in the only way out.

— James Fallows, "Why Iraq Has No Army," in the December Atlantic.

No Account

Dear Mr. President:

[Y]ou entered office with the promise to restore honor to the White House.
...
Mr. President, we are asking you to keep your promises.
...
This [promise] was shattered with the exposure in July 2003 of the identity of Valerie Wilson
...
We also ask that you make it clear that any individual, who is convicted of a crime stemming from the leak of the classified identity of Valerie Wilson, will not receive a pardon.
...
Signed

Hit it.

I hope those very brave citizens earn the President's ear. They certainly deserve some accountability from the president, a president who has so far asked very little of his staff except to game the politcal outcome of all his decisions.

Harry Reid > Tom Daschle

Sure am glad Frist went after Daschle last time around. Though my recommendation at the time was for Daschle to step down from leader, run his campaign in full attack mode, and let the Senate Dems fight for Kerry.

But hey, no one asked me!

Weasel Words

Bush and his speech writers are taking the "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is" defense tactic to its highest level. The war has failed, the lies are coming to light, and the weasel words are coming fast and furious.

I wish the President would quit trying to win the argument and start trying to win the war. Our troops deserve no less.

Shorter George Bush: I was wrong, but so were you.

Will he ever quit lying?

Kerry on the War Path

The path that led us to war is strewn with lies, muddy, unmarked, and booby-trapped. George Bush likes this path.

George Bush is resolute. Oh boy, the kool-aid drinkers love that resolute-ness. He's tough, heh-heh. He thinks the path we've taken cannot be changed, that would mean he made a mistake. But tough, resolute leaders don't make mistakes, right?

This would burst the bubble if it were true. Bush can't contemplate that.

John Kerry explains the problems with the lies and Bush's inability to come to terms with the truth. And his proclivity for fucking up something even more than it already is: 5 killed today; Iraqi suicide bombers new to the equation; and how we can only lose with torture.

Read it, then take some action. You know what to do - support the man, the words, the truth. There are many ways to do it.

Here are a couple of highlights:

Does the President think that the many generals, former top administration officials and Senators from his own party who have joined over two thirds of the country in questioning the President’s handling of the war in Iraq are all unpatriotic too? (Nah, that's just about the only thing he can say besides just throwing up his hands and admitting failure - Z)

His statement that Democrats saw and heard the same intelligence he did is just flat out untrue (Um, can we say "lie" yet? - Z) - unless of course the President and his Administration didn’t do their job and study the additional intelligence given only to them and not the Congress.

Again he misled America by promising that “If we have to act, we will take every precaution that is possible. We will plan carefully.” He did none of these things.

There you have it: a righteous condemnation of our President by the man who should be President. No sugar-coating, no bullshit. Just the unvarnished truth.

I hope history does its job by both these men.

5 Simple Rules

Hey Bloggers, try these 5 simple, easy to remember rules whenever you're blogging.

They'll add zest to you entries, a little extra zip to your blog, and all your friends will wonder if you've lost weight.

Here they are:
  1. When referring to Bush, always include the word "Republican" in close proximity to his name as in "Bush and his Republican Culture of Corruption..."
  2. When referring to Congress, remember to remind readers that the Legislative Branch is Republican controlled. For example: "Legislators in the Republican controlled Congress
  3. When writing about Bush or Republican leaders like Frist, always include the word "Republican" in association with them. For example, instead of "Majority Leader Bill Frist" use "Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist*."
  4. When referring to the Republican Party, always start with the words "Republican Party" rather than "GOP." To the less politically aware, the lack of awareness that "GOP" is the Republican Party may be to the Republican's advantage.
  5. You can also use the Radical Right as a prefix, like the Huffington Post is starting to do.
* Cat Killer also works for Frist.
