Savor It
Open Letter to County Parties from Dan Slater:
I want to say this morning how incredibly proud I am to be a Colorado Democrat today! The passage of Referendum C yesterday re-affirmed my belief that we have some of the best-organized and well-energized county parties in the country.
A year ago tonight, we were hearing rumblings of a miracle. In the midst of Republican victories nearly everywhere else in America, Colorado lifted itself from the shackles of fiscal irresponsibility and chose a new direction – a Democratic direction. A year ago tonight, Democrats did the unthinkable: we took control of the State House, the State Senate, the Third Congressional District, and a U.S. Senate seat.
Never let up, DEMS!Bruce, Caldara, and Coors, take note.
"Circle it."
TAPPED:
Reid also made it clear that he believes the delay in the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation of prewar Iraq WMD--the underlying issue behind Tuesday's closed session--is entirely attributable to Vice President Dick Cheney.
"Nothing happens regarding intelligence gathering... unless it's signed off on by the Vice President," he said. "[Senate Intelligence chairman Pat] Roberts couldn't do it"--i.e., Roberts couldn't conduct a full investigation without Cheney's approval.
When I asked Reid whether he meant to state so flatly that Cheney was personally and directly stalling the Intelligence Committee's work, he didn't pause a beat. In fact he almost stood from his chair.
"Yes. I say that without any qualification."
"Circle it."
11/5 Update from Froomkin from NPR from Wilkerson:
Mr. WILKERSON: "What happened was that the secretary of Defense, under the cover of the vice president's office, began to create an environment -- and this started from the very beginning when David Addington, the vice president's lawyer, was a staunch advocate of allowing the president in his capacity as commander in chief to deviate from the Geneva Conventions."
"Regardless of the president having put out this memo, they began to authorize procedures within the armed forces that led to, in my view, what we've seen."
Honor? Dignity? Integrity? Resolve? Ethics? - surely, they must be kidding.

Does George Care?
This is only a documentary post. The President does not care, the SecDef does not care.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs? It's strictly a political job. The greater glory to come means you have to sacrifice some chattel. Life's a bitch, ain't it?
Nothing will change. No policies, no plans, no adjustment of resources.
The President rolled the dice on Iraq, and even snake eyes can't make him modify his world view. How can someone ignore so much evidence?
So, this is only for sometime down the road, when we fully document the failures of our nation, to let people know how callous our leadership could be as our sons and daughters were getting their legs, arms, and heads blown to bits.

Seven U.S. troops also were killed on Tuesday and Wednesday, five of them during fighting in and around Ramadi that involved two roadside bombs and a helicopter crash. Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, is 70 miles west of Baghdad.
One of those soldiers died in the town of Balad, 50 miles north of Baghdad, when his patrol came under fire.
Our loss is now 2036 fine young men and women. Rather than working night and day to resolve this war, George Bush is trying to figure out how to keep Karl Rove on his staff and absolve him of his role in directly harming our national security. Is his own party clamoring for him to take responsibility? No, they are trying to evade it, just as their leader is.
This is the end of this documentary post. How will history judge a man who was more concerned with political victories than his responsibility to defend the Constitution and protect the citizens of the United States of American? Will they say he cared?
I doubt it.

Frist borked by Harry Reid
Ouch babe! Must see TeeVee. Frist is wishing for Tom Daschle back in charge of the Senate Dems. Maybe he shouldn't have campaigned against Tom in contradiction to the entire history of the Senate. Of course, ol' Fristy couldn't care less about the entire history of the senate.
None of the Republicans care.
I say no, thanks Bill! Tom sucked and we don't want him back. Take your HCA profits, retire, and get out of public service - you serve no one!
Frist is done for. He's a loser, and a fool to ply the lying trades of the indicted felons in the White House. I feel sorry for anyone that has to go to his practice anytime in the future.
Make sure you get a second opinion. Frist is proof that one opinion is never enough.
Just for the record
White House press briefing October 7, 2003 --
President Bush: "Randy, you tell me, how many sources have you had that's leaked information that you've exposed or have been exposed?"
President Bush: "Probably none."
President Bush: "I mean this town is a -- is a town full of people who like to leak information. And I don't know if we're going to find out the senior administration official. Now, this is a large administration, and there's a lot of senior officials. I don't have any idea."
President Bush: "I'd like to. I want to know the truth. That's why I've instructed this staff of mine to cooperate fully with the investigators -- full disclosure, everything we know the investigators will find out."
President Bush: "I have no idea whether we'll find out who the leaker is -- partially because, in all due respect to your profession, you do a very good job of protecting the leakers. But we'll find out."
Ha friggin' ha. He knew. He was in on the attempt to intimidate and silence members of the press who received the leak. They were all counting on the press to claim journalistic privilege in hiding the guilt of Scooter Libby, Karl Rove, and everyone else involved in the conspiracy to shut up Joe Wilson by ruining his wife's career and cover.
This ain't over. They knew then exactly what they were doing. The president was involved. I just hope it doesn't take 50 years for historians to uncover all the facts.
I would prefer a prosecutor uncover them.........

My Favorite Liar
Orrin Hatch has always been my Favorite Lying Senator. He mixes an overblown sense of self-righteousness with a pinch of the truth, and great constitutional knowledge with a wonderful history of the senate.
And he has the ability to drop in an instant any inconvenient positions he had taken (with great certitude that they were What the Founding Fathers would Want!) and replace them with his newest political expediency - without the slightest hint of hypocrisy. It is something to be admired, and feared.
For example, you almost never hear old Orrin take credit for the wonderful "blue slip" innovation, which allowed him to stymie Bill Clinton's nominees to the court for years. Yet as soon as a [R]'s got hold of the Presdiency, down the Hatch that rule dropped faster than you can say "blue Gap dress". It seems the process has been modified these days, and a blue slip submitted by a Democratic Senator is given the same weight as a piece of paper that your kindergartner lost while making her last collage.
Hatch really ramps it up today in defense of Judge Samujel Alito - George Bush's tribute to the far right wing for putting up with his incompetence, voting him into office - finally - in 2004, and for jumping "how high" when Karl Rove says the magic word.
Hatch's first whopper: "Neither party should be able to filibuster federal judges."
Yeah, with the blue slip around, who the hell needs to filibuster? It's like a filibuster without the words. Mel Brooks said it best: "It's good to be king."
Hatch then said "Advice and consent" means "up or down vote". His powers to read the minds of Jefferson and Washington are really far better than mine, but this is the lie that will not die. Eveyone in this process knows it means no such thing. Never has, hopefully never will. I am also hopeful that if the [R]'s do nuke the filibuster rule with judges, it's the first tactic we use when we return to power and can start nominating socialist whacko pot-smoking judges again.
None of Hatch's historionics registered with Melissa Block, the host of All Things considered. She ignored his lies and gave a happy little sendoff to our Favorite Lying Senator. She gave him carte blanche to frame the nuclear option however he wanted and disproved once again the theory that NPR is liberal.
There they were, the bald-faced lies of a senator without shame, floating through the air, unhinged from the past, unchallenged by the reporter, and unhindered by logic. They were all unleashed by Hatch, a liar extraordinaire. He's still my favorite.
Ooooh That Smell

Time Reporter Says He Learned Agent's Identity From Rove
Matthew Cooper Says I. Lewis Libby Confirmed Information
So Turd Blossom was a source of the CIA Agent Leak. What will Bush do about it?Pardon Me?
We gotta push the President to the point where he makes a clear statement: to pardon or not to pardon the Bush Indicted Felons on his staff.
Simple question, impossible answer.
Turn the screws, baby.

Home Improvement
We need to send out some eviction notices.
Jefferson, Frankin and Washington shall decide who:
The planks of the floor tongue-and-grooved together by Jefferson’s prose. The bricks laid straight and true by Washington. The kitchen kept tight and warm by Franklin. The Southern Wing fumigated by Sherman and made beautiful by Ms. Rosa Parks.
Drifty says why we need to clean house - none would disagree.
