Dobson Ain't Gonna Like This

Poor James Dobson. He and his friends have been free to spew their bitter bile for years now with very little push back from reasonable religious and political leaders. They've succeeded in having Colorado Springs being seen as one of the most hostile places in the country for gays, though even now it seems that wasn't quite enough. Not to mention their reactionary fundamentalist rhetoric, with just a tinge of fascism, that reminds one of Iran more than America. (Oops, I just mentioned it.)

Their blatant jump into partisan politics, similar to last year's interference in the presidential election by the Catholic Church, is just one more tactic in a larger war to inflict religion on all of us, and calls into question whether these organizations and churches should retain their tax exempt status.

But now people are starting to fight back. First Senator Ken Salazar, and now Colbert King, longtime columnist on the pages of the Washington Post, have accused them of hijacking Christianity, thus:

"They are not now and never will be the final arbiters of Christian beliefs and values. They warrant as much deference as religious leaders as do members of the Ku Klux Klan, who also marched under the cross." (my emphasis)

Take that, Dobson.

Now, let Dobson speak freely, attack the judges and flout the constitution. And we will tax those organizations as political entities so we can pay off George Bush's humongous deficit and attempt to fix his terrible fiscal policies. Sound fair?

Salazar Stands!

Yeah Ken! Senator Ken Salazar has been attacked by Focus on the Family in their ads pushing for strict Christian and "constitution in exile" judges. These judges are so far to the right, they make Nino Scalia look like PeeWee Herman.

Ken called their tactics un-Christian and rightfully stated that they have attempted to hijack the Senate with help from Senators Rick Santorum and Bill Frist. He added: "I think [Focus on the Family] is using Christianity and religion in a very unprincipled way."

You know Focus will come at him with all they got - so we have to give him all our support. Take a minute a give him our support at his website, or call his office at

Ann Coulter

Heroine to the Right, has recently been glorified on the cover of Time magazine. No one should ever forget the kind of person she is:

"My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

- as quoted in the New York Observer, Aug. 20, 2002

168 people died that die, killed by an American Terrorist. Coulter just thinks he got the location wrong - not the crime.

Lip Service

President Bush always gives lip service to his respect for intelligence agencies and the need for unfiltered information. Then he nominates someone like John Bolton, who tried to claim Cuba (Cuba, can you believe it! What about the Federated States of Micronesia - those Micronesians are some real trouble, I tell ya!) had chemical weapons. I guess he felt Iraq was going so well, we could do another little war - no problem.

Senator Russ Feingold put the lie to Bush and Bolton's pretense today:

"First, far beyond simple anecdotes revealing a hot temper or a tendency to abuse those less powerful than himself, this Committee has been presented with credible information indicating that Mr. Bolton sought to retaliate against intelligence analysts when their work did not suit his policy inclinations. We cannot pay lip service to the value of dissent within the intelligence community and then fail to hold officials accountable when they seek to silence dissent through intimidation, or to so tightly control dissent such that it is never heard or shared. This is not an abstract point, it is an issue vital to our national security, as both the 9/11 Commission and the Silberman-Robb Commission have so recently noted. It is also vital to restoring the credibility of the United States in the world. When we point to a threat to global peace and security, the world should be able to believe us. But after the embarrassing failures of U.S. intelligence in Iraq, and after the wildly overheated rhetoric that our policymakers employed to characterize shaky intelligence on the global stage, our credibility has taken a beating. It is the responsibility of everyone in the U.S. government to restore it. We can start by insisting on holding those who would suppress inconvenient analysis accountable for their actions."

Senator Feingold is placing responsibility and detailing how to correct the intelligence failures of the Bush administration. Senator Salazar's view? Who knows..............

KVOR + O'Reilly + Savage = Sociopaths

KVOR radio does us the wonderful favor of running Bill O'Reilly and Michael Savage - as if one lying, paranoid, sociopathic, hate-filled reactionary wasn't enough.

Here's some wisdom from Bill: "Talking Points" expects the American media to go after the new pope because he is conservative. And that will confirm his opinion that we're all a bunch of godless secularists over here. Remember, it is the American Civil Liberties Union which is now behind all abortion on demand, euthanasia, and coming soon perhaps, infanticide for impaired babies.

And Michael "Savage" Weiner
on the Tsunami in December, 2004: Maybe I should go to the U.N. [United Nations] and see if I can get some special psychotherapy and sun lamps.....It's not a tragedy. I wouldn't call it a tragedy.

These guys are on KVOR for 5 hours every single day, with the same lies, the same invective, and the same use of their free speech rights to taint the minds of their listeners. This can't be good for our community. My neighbor wears one of Savage's "Liberalism Breeds Terrorism" t-shirts, and has the bumper sticker on his car. Does he think I'm a terrorist, a traitor, should be thrown in jail? He's a cop, so he can do it.

I'm sure KVOR is making tons of money, and their managers sleep well at night knowing that. I wonder if they would sleep as well if their FCC license renewal was being challenged?

Is Anyone Out There?

Hello? "Responsible Republicans" - I heard there were some. They "said" they supported fiscal responsibility, smaller government, ethical leadership. Do the Responsible Republicans support this:

"The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior" - 3/31/05

"No man, no problem" - 4/8/05

"When a man is in trouble or in a good fight, you want to have your friends around, preferably armed. So I feel really good" - 4/16/05

That's irresponsibility defined, and personified, in Tom DeLay.

Yet the Republicans aren't talking much about personal responsibility much any more. Or a balanced budget amendment or term limits for that matter. Maybe it was just rhetoric to fool Joe Sixpack and get themselves in power to take care of their "real" issues.

I'm not so sure, but it'd be nice if some "Responsible Republicans" spoke up.
