Republican Newsletter? Very funny.
I come in my office today and open my email, and what do I see? Someone out there has nicely signed me up for the GOP El Paso County Party Newsletter. Ha, Ha. At first I was racing to the delete button, better yet I was considering adding it to my spam filter, but then I actually read it.
While browsing the pointless info I noticed a couple things.
First, their newsletter sucks. I even clicked the link to see their site, it sucks too!
Second, I think they are watching us. They had a nice section on upcoming events, and this is what it said:
El Paso County Republicans are sponsoring a booth at the Juneteenth Celebration on June 18th at Colorado College. Volunteers are needed for this event. Please call
Let's show those Democrats who is in charge? What does that mean? Is the El Paso County Democrats threatening the poor majority Republicans so much that they feel they have to show us who is in charge? Is this the only reason they participated in the Juneteenth Celebration? Do they even know what Juneteenth is about? Just in case they are reading this blog here is what Juneteenth is all about:
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.
Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.

Now in closing, no where in the description of what Juneteenth is about does it say a political party should only participate to show who is in charge. I know that we had a lot of volunteers working the event to participate in a community that shares in the celebration of freedom and diversity. I hope we always remember the history of suffering so we will NEVER allow it to happen again, in this country and all over the world!

It's the typical 'win at all cost' and 'this is a war' mentality of the Repugs. It has nothing to do with helping or supporting the community. It has to do with them telling someone else to 'stick it'. How mature. How typical. Well, at least they've noticed us now. I think we'll be hearing a lot more from them in the not-to-distant future ;)
It occurred to me.... we did Juneteenth and so did the Republicans. Do you think they'll do PrideFest?
